Android TV App Development

The most fragmented and most widely distributed TV platform.
Android TV runs on Smart TVs from Sony, Philips, Hisense, and Xiaomi, as well as streaming devices like NVIDIA Shield and Chromecast with Google TV. The platform's reach is enormous, but its fragmentation is real. Different manufacturers ship different Android versions with different capabilities. We build Android TV apps that work reliably across the full device range.
Market context
Android TV's reach across device manufacturers
Unlike Tizen or webOS, Android TV is not tied to a single manufacturer. Sony ships it on Bravia TVs. Philips ships it across its entire European range. Hisense ships it on devices sold across Europe and the Middle East. This cross-manufacturer reach makes Android TV a high-priority platform for broadcasters targeting multiple regions.
But that same fragmentation creates complexity. A Sony Bravia running Android 11 behaves differently from a Hisense running Android 9. The Leanback library ,Google's standard UI framework for TV, handles much of the D-pad navigation, but focus management, deep linking, and playback behaviour all require careful testing across multiple physical devices.
We maintain a lab with multiple Android TV devices from different manufacturers and Android versions. Every app we ship is tested on real hardware, not an emulator, before it leaves our hands.
